The Meadows: Secluded Yet Well-Connected

Drive through The Meadows, a large country club community in the northern part of Sarasota County just west of I-75, and you feel like you’re in a wooded nature park. Mature oaks, palms and pine trees provide shade throughout. The 85 lakes, ponds and waterways, and large preserve areas totaling 1650 acres of open space , lining a number of the golf course fairways, are home to an abundance of wildlife and bird species.

A relaxed leisurely atmosphere prevails, aided by the attractive countryside setting. Numerous awards over the years, including several from the Garden Club, have recognized the community’s natural beauty.

Located off Honore Avenue between 17th Street, its southern border, and Desoto Road a block from University Parkway, The Meadows is both secluded and well connected to the surrounding area.

Over 3,400 residences make up The Meadows. Here you’ll find garden homes, villas, condos, townhomes, and single-family residences, ranging in size from 1- to 5-bedrooms, and in price from the high $200,000s to $2.2 million.

There are a multitude activities for residents, whose ranks swell to around 8,000 during the season. Many make use of the 14 miles of sidewalks and bike trails. They also participate in the activities and events offered by MCA — from bingo, bridge and mahjong, to newcomer and holiday parties, concerts, art fairs and a large annual community yard sale.

The Meadows Country Club recently spent 1.5M to renovate the golf course and it is impressive. Its private member club offers exclusive access to 18 private plus 36 public holes of golf, 17 Har-Tru tennis courts, pickleball, junior Olympic pool, a fitness center, 2 restaurants, and 6 event spaces. A host of clubhouse activities keep members engaged and connected, including a monthly speaker’s bureau, book club, game nights, dinner dances and specialty buffets.

Another popular attraction is the small commercial area in the middle of the community, The Meadows Shopping Village, which has a beauty shop, travel agency, bank, post office, and three well-established eateries: The Golden Daisy Café, Mona Lisa, an Italian restaurant, and The Meadows Village Pub.

A host of other shopping and restaurant opportunities abound at UTC and Lakewood Ranch’s Main Street. Nathan Benderson Park with its new, premier rowing facility is virtually next door. Downtown Sarasota is only a 15-minute drive way.
